BEIJING, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- China's Xinhua News Agency and Russia's TASS news agency jointly held a photography exhibition in Beijing on Tuesday to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
The exhibition features more than 50 photographs taken by journalists from both agencies, showcasing the great contributions made by China and the Soviet Union, the main theaters of Asia and Europe respectively, to the victory in World War II.
Inaugurating the exhibition, President of Xinhua News Agency Fu Hua said Xinhua is willing to deepen exchanges and cooperation with TASS, jointly promote a correct historical perspective on World War II, speak for justice, peace and the people, tell well stories of China-Russia traditional friendship and stories of bilateral cooperation in the new era.
Andrey Kondrashov, director general of TASS, said these photographs documented the significant sacrifices made by both countries in pursuit of victory and remind people of their responsibility for safeguarding peace. He added that maintaining resilience and solidarity is particularly important in a world faced with common challenges.
Stressing the importance of preserving and objectively presenting the true history related to the victory in World War II, Stepkina Natalia, minister-counsellor of the Russian Embassy in China, said photographs from TASS and Xinhua enable generations of people to remember history and both countries should firmly oppose any attempts to distort history.
The exhibition will last until Sept. 9. ■
