KATHMANDU, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Nepal Armed Police Force Academy, built under the China-Aid project, was formally inaugurated by Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli here on Monday.

Located on a mountain slope at Chandragiri municipality on the outskirts of Kathmandu, the training academy is the first of its kind in Nepal and has been built under the Chinese grant assistance while was executed by China Railway 14 Bureau Group Co.Ltd.

The advanced and world-class training institute, built up in 15,000 square meters, is expected to produce highly competent manpower, researchers, academicians and experts considering the security needs and emerging challenges of the country.

"We were in need of such modern academy since long and it's like a dream come true today. We are hopeful that the academy will produce skilled, capable and professional manpower who can address the growing security challenges, keeping the nation's interests at first," Prime Minister Oli said after the inauguration.

Appreciating the assistance by the Chinese government and the timely completion of the project by the contractor, Oli remarked that this training academy symbolizes the friendship between the two neighboring countries and can work as a base for Nepal's future development.

"As we thrive for change and development in every sector, the timely project completion without compromising on quality can be a good lesson for Nepal's future endeavors," the Prime Minister remarked.

The construction of the full-fledged extensive training academy began on April 16, 2015, just a few days ahead of the devastating earthquake, and was completed on May 15, 2017.

Following the handover of the academy from the Chinese side to the Nepal government in June last year, the academy already provided extensive training to security officers during the past 8 months.

Terming this China-Aid project as earthquake-tested friendship between China and Nepal, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong said that the two sides can create more high-quality cooperation projects together.

"I believe that the cooperation under the framework of Belt and Road Initiative will bring new opportunities to the development of Nepal. China is willing to continue support to Nepal within its capacity of economic and social development," ambassador Yu said.

She also recalled the hard work and devotion of Chinese workers during the construction period, especially during monsoon season.

The academy has 19 individual buildings, including teaching building, dormitory building, covered hall, indoor and outdoor training venue, canteen, stadium and swimming pool, among others.
