TEHRAN, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Ministry on Wednesday condemned recent U.S. move for blacklisting the Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Valiollah Seif, Press TV reported.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi described the move by Washington as "the continuation of the U.S. government's inappropriate behavior and hostile policies, which have targeted the Iranian nation over the past decades in various forms."

"These hostile policies have failed and will fail to bring any achievement for the United States, and will rather make the Iranian nation and government more determined, patient and resilient than ever in their efforts to counter America's anti-Iran measures," Qasemi said.

The new U.S. imposition of sanctions on Iran also demonstrates United States' failure to achieve its anti-Iran objectives through the unilateral withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), he said.

After the grave mistake of scrapping the nuclear deal, the United States is now trying to resort to such "destructive moves" in order to undermine the will of the other parties that protect the JCPOA, Qasemi added.

The international reaction to the U.S. withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal shows how such an illogical move by the U.S. president has damaged the U.S. government's credibility and isolated it, he was also quoted as saying by Tasnim news agency.

In the meantime, Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif described the move as the "fury of the U.S. administration" over the global disapproval of the U.S. exit from the international Iranian nuclear deal. "The measure has its roots in the anger of the U.S. administration."

On Tuesday, the U.S. Treasury Department named Valiollah Seif and another senior official in Iran's Central Bank as "specially designated global terrorists" for allegedly assisting Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin accused Seif of covertly funneling money on behalf of the IRGC's Quds Force through Iraq-based Al Bilad Islamic Bank to support Lebanon's Hezbollah movement.

U.S. Treasury also blacklisted Ali Tarzali, assistant director of the CBI's international department, and Aras Habib, chairperson of Iraq-based Al-Bilad Islamic Bank.
