YANGON, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar government and the nationwide ceasefire accord (NCA)-signatory ethnic armed organizations (EAO) have held a preliminary meeting in Nay Pyi Taw ahead of a trilateral peace talks, the official Global New Light of Myanmar reported Sunday.

The trilateral peace talks among the government, army and 10 NCA signatory EAO is scheduled for Monday to continue resolving matters in existence through negotiation.

Chairman of the government's Peace Commission Dr. Tin Myo Win urged both sides at Saturday's preliminary meeting to give suggestions and produce good results in the upcoming Monday meeting, while Vice Chairman of the Kayin National Union (KNU) Pado Saw Kwe Htoo Win called for negotiation between them in preparation for tackling challenges ahead.

The preliminary meeting discussed issues related to democracy, basic principles, self-determination, non-secession from the Union as well as unified army and strengthening of ceasefire agreements.

The four-day trilateral talks, which also marks the third anniversary of the signing of NCA, are aimed at overcoming the bottle necks at various levels of political discussions, the EAO announcement said.

Following the October 2015 initiation of the NCA, Myanmar's 21st Century Panglong Peace Conferences were held thrice during the incumbent government in August 2016, May 2017 and July 2018 respectively.

The second session of the peace conference was able to incorporate a total of 37 adopted basic principles into the union accord as Part I in the country's peace process, while its third session adopted 14 more basic principles as Part II of the Accord, bringing the total number incorporated into the union accord for peace to 51.

These agreed principles were signed by leaders of participant groups of the government, parliament, military, ceasefire ethnic armed groups and political parties.

Participants in the Panglong Peace conference pledged to strive for formulating more firm fundamental principles for establishing a democratic and federal union by holding another session later this year and two more in 2019.
