ADEN, Yemen, March 28 (Xinhua) -- Yemeni government forces said on Thursday that 30 Houthi fighters were killed in an ambush in the country's southern province of al-Dhalea.

According to the Defense Ministry's website 26sepnews.net, the government forces conducted the ambush against Houthi fighters in Muris district of al-Dhalea, 245 km south of the capital Sanaa.

A total of 30 members of the Houthi group, including a field commander, were killed during the well-planned ambush, the website said.

Moreover, 10 Houthi fighters were injured during armed confrontations with the government forces following the ambush, it added.

There is no comment yet from the Houthi group.

Several areas in the north and west of al-Dhalea have been witnessing constant armed confrontations between the Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces and the Houthi fighters for nearly four years.

The long-running Yemeni conflict between the two warring parties has left tens of thousands dead or injured, including at least 17,700 civilians as verified by the United Nations.

Yemen has been mired in a civil war since late 2014 when the Houthi rebels overtook the capital Sanaa and ousted the internationally-backed government of President Abd-Rabbuh Mansour Hadi. A Saudi-led coalition has been fighting the Houthis since 2015.
