DONGGUAN, China, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Sonny Weems and Marshon Brooks combined for 49 points as Guangdong overcame Xinjiang 116-97 in Game 2 of Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league finals here on Sunday, leading 2-0 in the best-of-seven series.

Holding a 14 points lead into the last quarter, Guangdong held the double digit advantage tightly and gave Xinjiang no chance to come back.

"Xinjiang put tremendous pressure on us tonight, we fought hard during the whole game," Guangdong's coach Du Feng said.

"We have to get prepared for a even tougher game on road next week." He added.

Weems scored a game-high 25 points, Brooks added 24 points, and Yi Jianlian had 17 points for Guangdong. Kay Felder and Jarnell Stokes had 24 points apiece for Xinjiang.

Zeng Lingxu opened the scoring for Xinjiang and Stokes added a 3-pointer to gift the visiting team a 5-0 lead. Marshon Brooks scored four straight points to help Guangdong surge to a 9-0 run. Weems and Brooks combined 15 points for Guangdong while Yi contributed another six points as Guangdong took a 32-30 edge in the first quarter.

Felder shined to score 10 of Xinjiang's 12 points at the beginning of the second quarter, lifting the visitors to a 42-37 lead. Guangdong surged to a 17-1 spurt with seven players scoring, carving out a double digit lead at 85-71 into halftime.

Xinjiang was back into the game with a 7-0 spurt after the break, cutting the deficit to only eight points with ten minutes to go in the third quarter. But Weems and Brooks combined six points to extend the lead again for Guangdong. The home team took a 85-71 lead into the last quarter.

"We had a better defense tonight than last game, but it was not enough for us to win the game." Xinjiang's coach Adijiang said.
