SANAA, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Houthi rebels said they launched a new bomb-laden drone strike on Abha regional airport in southern Saudi Arabia early on Monday, the Houthi television channel reported.

The rebels gave no further details, while there was no Saudi confirmation on the alleged attack.

If confirmed, Monday's attack would be the fourth attack which was claimed responsibility by the Iran-allied Yemeni rebels against the same airport in less than a week

Saudi air defense forces intercepted two similar attacks attempted by the Houthis against the airport last week, while Wednesday's missile attack had wounded 26 people at the airport, according to the Saudi authorities.

In response to Wednesday's attack on Abha airport, Saudi Arabia launched a series of airstrikes against Houthi positions in and around the capital Sanaa over the past three days.

Abha is about 200 km north of the Yemeni border.

The rebels have threatened to target more Saudi airports, demanding an immediate end to the war and lift of all-out blockade imposed by the Saudi-led coalition.

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates led a coalition to intervene in Yemen's civil war in 2015 to restore the government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

Houthi fighters seized much of Yemen's north in late 2014, forcing Hadi and his government into exile in Saudi Arabia.
