YANGON, July 11 (Xinhua) -- The death toll caused by A (H1N1) pdm 09 influenza has risen to 37 across Myanmar as of Wednesday, said the figures released by the Public Health Department under the Health and Sports Ministry Thursday.

So far, Yangon region registered 29 deaths, followed by Ayeyarwady region with three deaths, Bago region with two, Sagaing region with two and one death in Mon state.

Out of 537 suspected patients, 195 people were confirmed to have been affected by the influenza virus across the country.

From January 1 to July 10, 116 people were contracted with H1N1 influenza in Yangon region while 16 affected people in Rakhine state and the rest in other regions and states, the department's figures said.

The seasonal influenza virus was detected in July 2017 in Myanmar, with 408 people infected, claiming at least 38 lives across the country.

Its symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, body aches, headaches, chills as well as vomiting and diarrhea.

The symptoms come within one to five days which is called incubation period after exposure to an infected person as the virus is spread through airborne droplets from sneezing and coughing or by hands which are contaminated with secretions.

Prevention and control of H1N1 influenza virus to reduce the risk of fatality from the virus is being carried out by the health authorities and people are urged to follow recommended precautionary measure.
